22 Aug

Hold on to your hats fashionistas – you are about to be hurled through a crazy month of fashion in Perth (and you’re going to love every minute!!).

The Perth Fashion Festival held its 2012 launch yesterday where the who’s who of the fashion world rubbed shoulders while models paraded a gorgeous array of colour – showing off what’s in store for SS 12/13 collections.

The PFF website also went live into cyberspace yesterday where the full line up of designers and events were listed. Whilst it was a long, much-anticipated wait for the website to show off its wares – it was definitely worth the wait!!

The line up is amazing this year and includes; Ae’lkemi, Alushia Sanchia, Ange-Lang, Anna Excell, Beso Beso, Betty Tran, Bikini Atoll, Breathless, Catini Designs, Cebiche, Daniella Caputi, Empire Rose, Flannel, Gail Sorronda, Garth Cook, Gypsea, House of Wilde, Kim Barton, Kuwaii, Limedrop, Lisa Marjanovich, Little Gracie, Martini+Coz, Monster Alphabets, Morrison, Neleh +Heath, Nikki Loueza, On a Whim, One Fell Swoop, Peppermint Milk, Raspberry +Pop, Shona Joy, Steph Audino, The Butcher and the Crow, Tindale, Wild Horses and Zsadar.

The events are set to be the most spectacular ever and will be held throughout the city and Northbridge. The locations for this years events will utilize the very best of what Perth has to offer and with the amazing line up of designers, some internationally recognized stylists and the experience of event organizers – you are in store for a real treat!!
Find the full line up of events here;  http://www.perthfashionfestival.com.au/events

Perth Fashion Festival is now in its 14th year and every year I get more and more excited about it coming around…… it’s like a week of Christmas!
The event calendar is like my form guide and I sit and work out the week and how I can attend as many events as I possibly can around other commitments.
Why do I love it so much?
1. It is a feast for the creative eye with the best of our Australian designers showing off their latest work.
2. It attracts the most beautifully spirited crowd who are there to get their fix of the fashion world whilst enjoying the buzz of fashion, music, artists, media, photographers and more.
3. It is my excuse to put on something special and enjoy time with friends.
4. It is my excuse to get my hands on an amazing outfit or two (just in time for the Spring Racing Carnival)!!

So make sure you put the week of 19-25 September on your calendar and stay tuned to Stylewa for all things style from the PFF!!

Enjoy!

An Evening with Flannel

20 Aug

The latest glamorous collection from Flannel is inspired by the 1920’s and features silks, lace, floral prints, feathers and sequins. The clothing inspires the modern woman to dress to the occasion whilst remaining comfortable and classic!

So with 1920’s being the inspiration and the upcoming Perth Fashion Festival being the event, Flannel is set to star at a spectacular evening on September 24 at Hackett Hall.

The mood of the evening will be somewhat different to anything experienced during the Festival in years gone by, with poised models showing off the 2012/13 collection in the candlelit setting. Former Vogue stylist Meg Gray will assist in producing such a grand event where guests will enjoy a sumptuous 3 course meal accompanied by French champagne.

So put ‘An Evening with Flannel’ in your diaries and be sure to get your tickets to avoid disappointment!

Date:  24 September
Time:  7pm
Cost: $250 (&bf)
Dress: Fabulously!
Tickets: Foxtix (perthfashionfestival.com.au)

The face behind the Flannel empire – Kristy Lawrence

26 Jul

I love the label Flannel. Walking into a Flannel store makes you feel like you have just found a gorgeous boutique somewhere on the outskirts of Paris.
The shop front itself is a feast for the stylish eye and the creative mind and its the place where award-winning designer, Kristy Lawrence has successfully translated her lifestyle into a signature range of fashion and home wares.

With an upcoming trip to the US as well as Flannel’s involvement with this weeks’ STYLEAID parade, Kristy Lawrence is busy to say the least!
With that said, Kristy has been lovely enough to take time out to chat about all things Flannel and the insight has made me love it even more!
stylewa:  When Flannel opened its first store here in WA, did u ever expect the label would grow as rapidly as it has?

K.L:  Flannel started as a partnership with my sister Brooke. It came about from my love of creating and both of us wanting to earn some extra funds for us to indulge in our love of travel together with our children. After successfully selling to independent stores we went on to open our first store in Cottesloe. It was more as a love of the Flannel product and wanting to showcase it in its entirety with our homewares etc. We were so excited by the immediate reaction from clients both wholesale and retail and the continuous growth we are still discovering now 5 years later! What started as a hobby has grown to a very exciting, successful and fast growing business.

stylewa:  Your style is so effortlessly chic- what are your inspirations when designing garments?

K.L:  For me its about being simply chic with a little attitude and most importantly comfortable! I design for what I would like to wear and get much of my inspiration from women in the street, it could be their attitude, a particular colour, fabrication or design detail. I love to travel and people watch!

Our philosophy really suits how I feel..

Live, Work and Play!
“Paris meets New York for the Australian lifestyle. Flannel’s collections create a relaxed, luxurious, playful feeling, chalky hues, with a fresh hint of colour, understated, graceful style with an edge of a rock-bohemian chic, for customers who appreciate the finer things in life. Unique and simple, Flannel is a consumate label full of covetable everyday pieces.”

stylewa:  The name Flannel……how did it come about?

K.L:  Over a red wine with friends! We love how the brand is a contradiction to what people immediately think of the name but at the same time it still suits. Conjuring thoughts of comfort, home etc. It becomes a topic of conversation.

stylewa:  You already have stores in Perth, Sydney and feature at David Jones, what’s in store for the future at Flannel?

K.L:  A very much anticipated store in Melbourne adding to our 4 stores in Perth. (Cottesloe, South Perth, Garden City and Subiaco) and our Mosman store in Sydney. Very exciting things to come in the US. Keep you posted!!

Kristy Lawrence you are one very talented designer!
Thankyou for your time and we look forward to watching for Flannels next exciting edition.

Winter warming on Ardross St

27 Jun

Sunday just gone was rain, rain and more of it!!

I had a coffee date with an old friend on Ardross St and we sat inside our chosen cafe drinking hot coffee.

Conversation was good so I was happy to be there, regardless of how good or bad the coffee was………

Conversation was good and I was listening intently until I saw a waitress at the resturant next door deliver a dish to one of their patrons. It looked like passionfruit souffle – hot, fluffy souffle -yum!!

I pointed it out to my friend so she knew why I was distracted from conversation and then we just sat there in Souffle envy watching it disappear!!

So after we paid for our coffee we agreed to venture next door to Jacs and treated ourselves to a Sunday afternoon souffle!!

Yep it was passionfruit souffle served with creme anglaise – $14 worth of heaven on a plate……………………definately recommend it- even worth a special trip to Ardross St,  Ardross just for the souffle!!

Flannel Fancy

20 Jun

I’ve been in love with Flannel for years! Since they first opened their corner store in South Perth, I’ve treated myself to many outings to feed my fashion addition…….and my love of all things gorgeous.

The clothing in Flannel is comfortable, stylish, effortlessly chic and the fabrics are so luxurious no matter what the style.

Its no wonder that Flannel have impressed the fashion world and they now have stores in Garden City, Cottesloe, South Perth and Subiaco. The label is also available at David Jones and at their online store; https://www.flannel.com.au/E-Shop

If you haven’t yet experienced Flannel – definately treat yourself!

(This is the Flannel Philosophy which I thought was the perfect way to describe the label)
