Paspaley Polo in Perth City – Perfection!

9 Dec

The Sun Herald has marked Paspaley Polo in the City as the “Official kick-off to the summer party season”.…… and that it is!

This event moves between Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth and delivers an afternoon of sophisticated summer style!

Here in Perth, the event has been blessed with gorgeous blue skies for the last few years running, providing the most stunning backdrop against a marquee lined Langley Park.

With sponsors such as Paspaley, Coopers, Land Rover, Veuve Clicquot and Guinot guests were treated to an afternoon of fine wines, food, entertainment and other goodies depending on which marquee they were in.

With something for everyone, hospitality comes in the way of Private Corporate marquees, picnic marquees, The Paspaley marquee (by invitation) as well as individual entry to The Coopers bar. Guests are offered entertainment, the chance to meet the players, pamper sessions and the chance to go in the draw to win some fabulous prizes…. including a stunning Paspaley necklace.

The event seemingly runs without fault and the atmosphere is chilled thanks to a relatively small maximum number.

The rules of the game are easy to follow which makes it exciting for new-comers. Basically there are four players to a side and the aim of the game is to score the most goals within the period of play. The game lasts for a duration of 6 chukka's, each lasting 7 minutes – so the game is fast paced and very skillful!

The thing I love the most about The Polo in the City is that it has a huge eliment of fun!

At half time spectators are invited to 'stomp the divots' which involves the crowd coming onto the field to tread in the tufts of grass that have been kicked up by the horses during the game. If you've ever seen the movie Pretty Woman you may recall the iconic scene where Julia Roberts participated in 'stomping in the divots' … The scene came into my head instantly as the Roy Orbison classic song 'Pretty Woman' played on the giant speakers at Langley Park.

Spectators are also invited to participate in a dash across the field to win a prize which is always a fun sight to see! Although participation in the dash accross the field can be outfit dependant!

This event always seems to draw a super stylish crowd where both men and women go to effort to put together some impressive polo-going outfits. This year, I was particularly loving men's detail in terms of hats, cuffed pants, and cuff-links. Women looked stunning with delicate fabrics in ivories, flowing summer dresses in bold print and many traded the traditional hat for a parasol.

Fashions on the field saw one lucky man and woman walk away with some fantastic prizes and it was outfits of colour that seemed to work for the judges in 2012.

Presentations followed the match and a magnum of Veuve Clicquot marked celebrations for the winning team.

What a fabulous way to spend an afternoon in the Perth sunshine!
